Avery Strong Showcase Rescheduled Due To NW Storm

Avery Strong Showcase Rescheduled Due To NW Storm

Due to the weather condition, the Avery Strong Football Showcase has been postponed to March 31st, 2019.  The staff will be honoring all registrations and released the information Friday afternoon as the weather turned from bad to potentially dangerous.  With all public schools closing all schools events including all sports the camp management felt they had to follow suit.

As media covering the event, some of us drove all day to get to Seattle only to find out this had to happen. This was an impossible and potentially disastrous situation.  I and staff from Outside the Game were in Renton ready to go but worried for the safety of all.  When the management announced their decision.  As difficult and expensive as this was for us as media we had to agree.  I am home safely and posted tweets and messages on the way home.

We will be in attendance when the camp goes off in March.  Many college coaches were at the hotel and also were saddened but agreed with this decision.  The Avery Strong Football Camp staff is posting messages on their website and twitter page.  We support all of you that tried to attend and those that traveled to the area as we did.  This was not a fun day- but a safe one in the end.  This storm is monumental and we understand this was the right thing to do.

Our family appreciated your Twitter updates. They were the only way we knew there was an issue! We were planning to come from Oregon to attend. Had we not had family in the area, we wouldn’t have known weather was bad. (Weather is clear and sunny where we are.) We checked the website – no contact info. Found our way to your Twitter feed to learn things had changed.

I understand the organizer is doing this for a good cause and that mother nature has her own agenda, but communication for this event was awful for those trying to attend. Only using Twitter and no email communication is a very bad way to run an event. I’m seeing folks were flying in from other states, only to be disappointed and stranded. I hope the organizers have learned a lesson to communicate effectively in the future. We are out $$ two days of a hotel, out $$ for the event (good thing it’s going to charity!) but we will avoid Avery Strong events in the future.

I too was out money and travel. I know your pain. I will make sure they know about this. In 20 years of covering sports events I have not seen this happen. We all got caught up in a storm of almost unequaled proportion. Avery Strong is a movement and a brand beyond the camp. I will see if I can get your concerns addressed. This should not stop you from trying to attend in the future if they can improve on those things.
