Meadowdale High School in Lynwood features a stalwart running back/cornerback in senior to be Malik Braxton. The young missile blasted his way to 824 yards and 8 touchdowns, on only 102 carries as a junior. He was a 1st team All-Wesco 3A selection at running back and 2nd team as a kick returner for the powerhouse Mavericks. The 5’10” 190 pound speed merchant zipped for 285 yards and 7 scores during his Sophomore campaign.
Braxton and his boys had a terrific run last season. They finished with a 7-5 record, but made it to the state 3A quarterfinals, losing a hard fought battle to Eastside Catholic, 21-16. Malik had his best game of the season against the Crusaders, dashing and darting his way for 205 yards on 30 carries. The Mavs return some other key cogs as well, as they look to better last years run. Braxton currently holds a scholarship offer from the Air Force Academy to play cornerback.
Malik is a tremendous all around athlete. He started for the Mavericks hoop squad last winter at off-guard. He is also a flat out burner on the track too. Braxton qualified for the State 3A meet in both the triple jump and the 4×100 meter relay, finishing 11th in the triple jump. He had a personal best of 44’4″ in the triple jump and 21’1″ in the long jump.
This young juggernaut carries a tidy 3.8 grade point average as well. Expect bigger and better things this season from Malik Braxton as schools from all around the country are taking note!
