It is hard to believe that a kid as powerful and as talented as Jesuit High School's Doug Brenner is not sitting on multiple Pac 12 offers. That however will change. Because we know that schools are sitting back and wondering if they can slow roll his recruitment and maybe offer him later in the year. No such luck.
At 6'3" and 275 pounds Doug has now grown into what many believed he would be. The premier D-linemen in the region. There are plenty of guys that are right there as well but when you consider the big guy can now Bench Press 405 and squat 550 along with a very quick and explosive frame it is clear he can be a Pac 12 player.
"I had a hard year with injuries last season. So this season I am going to be so hungry to get back after it," said Brenner who just helped his Jesuit Crusaders lock up the Metro League Baseball Title.
Last season he played both sides of the line, fullback, and linebacker. And up until now many analysts had been struggling to place him at the next level. But it is becoming clear he will be an end or a tackle up front on the defense.
"Portland State offered me and they are looking at me for D-line. The other schools I am close to like Oregon State, Boise State, UCLA, UW, Stanford, and the University of Oregon are all looking at me there too."
Doug is an amazing athlete and has been good at every sport he has tried. Beyond that he is an honors student at one of the hardest schools in the State and has a 3.88 Cumulative GPA. That should carry him as far as he wants to go off the field.
Training wise he has transformed his body at PTC in West Linn where he has trained with Jesuit-Stanford-Clevland Brown star Owen Marecic.
"Owen is amazing and has helped push me. Training with him has been a huge help," said Brenner who is feeling faster and stronger then ever before.
Looking at this realistically and with our depth of experience and knowledge of the kids of the Pacific Northwest we do not see a more physical or talented kid then Doug. The fact that he does not have several offers is a matter of his injuries from last season; none of which were major. Once the big man hits the camp circuit we feel the offers will drop. And when one does they all will.
This is a perfect case where the in State schools should not wait. Oregon State and Oregon both have him on their boards. But if they wait schools like Boise State and UCLA will grab this kid. And the first offer is always one the guys remember most.
"Right now I am planning to get to the camps of my top schools if I can. That would be OSU, Oregon, Boise State, UW, UCLA, and Stanford. There are some others but I need to go show them what I can do and hopefully earn an offer."
He will make stops at the NW ELITE FOOTBALL CAMP (formerly Jason Gesser Camp) in Seattle June 8th and at the Nike Football Training Camp June 10th. The best linemen in the Region will be at both camps so Doug will have his shot to shine there too.
Looking to his Senior year Doug is stoked.
"Oh my gosh we are going to be so good. The team is such an amazing group of young athletes we should have a chance to win it all. The guys are working hard and we are hungry too," he concluded clearly focused on this far beyond the recruiting world.
Watch for Doug Brenner coming to a backfield near you. He should not be hard to miss this season as he continues his rise among the regions finest.
