This was a big day already with offers flying around for the Seniors and guys trying to catch one more visitation. Some schools however are not wasting anytime looking to capture the stars of the future and that case was made crystal clear tonight as the UCLA Bruins made their move on arguably the top athlete in the State for the Class of 2014.
2014 you say? Yes it is true. For those watching Bellevue win their 4th State Title in 4 years over a tough O’Dea squad it will come as no surprise that Sophomore Budda Baker is garnering such awesome attention.
In breaking news we bring to you first that he was just offered a scholarship by new UCLA Head Coach Jim Mora. The kid still has two more years, wait make that 2.5 more years, of High School to go. But this is the name of the game. When you see something that good you have to pounce and Mora is wasting no time going after the best kids in the Pacific Northwest.
“The discussion with Mora included the verbal offer and a confession by Coach Mora to Budda that he has never offered a Sophomore in High School a scholarship,” said a source close to the family. “He emphasized that and that the Bruins are going to be a force in the future.”
Baker is supposed to have a similar offer either coming or already made by the U of W. This level of interest has the potential to boost him into the super-recruit category which is a lot to handle for a young guy. The kid has moxie and is super composed coming from a great family with good genes too. His cousin Chey Walker if Eastside Catholic is a superb athlete and is heading to Portland State University on a scholarship at the conclusion of this school year.
He has legit speed and is dangerous anytime his hands are on the ball as well as an athlete showing he can play with the best and does so at such a young age.
WashingtonPreps.com is excited for Baker who insiders say could be one of the very best to ever come out of Bellevue. And that folks is saying something.
