Story by Coach Demian Walter; Eastside Analyst
Coeur d’ Alene High School in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho is one of the very best high school football programs in the Pacific Northwest. They have a Quarterback/Free Safety on their roster for this upcoming 2018 season that is flying way under the radar. There is not much film on this young man, but I met him last December in 2017 in Spokane at the tryouts for the Spokane Bulls of the 7 on 7 Association.
He immediately jumped out to me with two very great qualities of a QB. Rare size and great arm strength.
Kale Edwards is a 6’ 5” 210lb. class of 2018 diamond in the rough. Kale is a two-sport standout athlete as he also was an ALL LEAGUE selection in basketball as a junior last season. Kale is the true definition of a student-athlete as he holds an eye gouging 3.98 GPA, with a 1320 two-part SAT score. So, college coaches out there can put a check mark in the two boxes for GPA and SAT scores for Kale Edwards if you want to add him to your recruiting boards.
I asked Kale what he thinks his best attributes are and he said, “I think my best attributes are my leadership skills, my competitive drive, and my football intelligence”.
I spoke with his 7 on 7 coach Craig Shaver of the Spokane Bulls and Coach Shaver had this to say, “A part of Kales game that he doesn’t get enough credit for is his athletic ability, versatility, and knowledge of the game.” Coach Shaver followed up by saying, “He’s not overly vocal but is a silent leader who builds guys up around him and is like an extension of the coaching staff. He’s very coachable and has a great work ethic. He is outstanding in the classroom as well and it shows in conversation. He’s a very bright kid.”I have watched Kale play and I can confirm his athleticism is very impressive. He has a 4.79 40 yard dash which is very good for a guy at his size.
On the recruiting side of things, Kale says the University of Idaho has a lot of interest in him so far and that he has talked with coaches from Washington State University, Sacramento State University, University of Montana, Eastern Washington University and Simon Fraser University. Like I said at the beginning of this article, I do not have much film on Kale as a QB/FS to give a great evaluation but I really feel that this young man is going to have a great 2018 season and become a
player that will lead a GREAT high school team to a deep run in the Idaho State Playoffs. So far his team is off to an undefeated 5-0 record this season with wins over Gonzaga Prep HS of Spokane and a huge win last Friday over powerhouse Highland HS out of Pocatello in a rematch of the 2017 Idaho State
Championship Game. Have a great rest of your senior season Kale.
