Federal Way High School’s superb scat back Chico McClatcher zipped and zagged his into the South Puget Sound League’s record books last Friday night. The Senior burner shredded
arch rival Decatur high’s defense for a league record 397 yards rushing. The record was previously set in 2005 by fellow Eagle Victor Williams who ran for 391 yards against Bethel high.
The young speed demon McClatcher added 5 touchdowns for good measure, in the 70-24 romp over the Gators.
McClatcher is a kid who has been around the SPSL 4A league for 4 years now, terrorizing defenses over and over again. The 5’8″ 180 pound missile has double digit scholarship offers, including
about half of the Pac-12 Conference. This kid can flat out fly, and big things are awaiting him in the future.
Chico the man starting ripping up the conference when he broke out as a ninth grader. He ended up with 350 yards rushing and 3 scores as a freshman. He then stepped his game big time
as a super sophomore, when he went for over 1200 total yards to go with 17 touchdowns. Last season the “blue mamba” went crazy. He sliced and diced his way for over 2000 total yards and 33 total touchdowns. McClathcer helped lead his Eagles to the state 4A semi-finals.
Before his record performance on Friday night, McClatcher had a gigantic ball game in a week 4 rout of Jefferson high. He zoomed for 252 all purpose yards, 2 rushing touchdowns and a
90 yard kick off return score, as the Eagles rolled 55-35.
Chico’s brilliant speed has also carried over to the track for Federal Way. The rocket ship made it to the state 4A finals in both the 4×100 relay and the long jump. He ended up finishing 4th
in the long jump, sailing 22’10”.
