One of the best Quarterbacks in the West this Class of 2015 is Cole Chandler of Silverton High School. His film a showcase of mastery of the position. Under Coach John Mannion, Sean Mannion’s (OSU) Father, he has flourished. He makes all the throws and has the Foxes at the top of the Oregon 5 A polls. After the big win last week he checked in to let us know how he was progressing by sending us in the 2 Minute Drill Interview we requested; that to follow.
Moreover he is 26-3 as a Varsity QB, 34-4 including his Freshman season. Cole hasn’t missed a quarter of play since starting high school play. Wow! How many QB’s or players can claim that sort of a record? Not many.

ON: How is the Season Going so far for you and the Team?
We have had 5 games so far and we have won all of them by a decent margin. I think we are looking really good this year, we have lots of guys stepping it up and really getting invested in the program. We hit every practice hard, looking at them as another step towards beating our opponent on fFriday nights. In the back of our mind I think we all hope to make a strong run for the state title this year.
What Position(s) are you playing this season?
Quarterback Safety |
|
ON: Are you happy with your progress?
I think one of my greatest strengths as a football player is my knowledge of the game and my personal experience with leadership. I’ve been starting at quarterback for Silverton High for the last three years. I believe that I have built up quite a bit of respect from my teammates and coaches. I trust every one of my teammates to do there job and accomplish what needs to be done on the field, just as they can count on me to control my responsibilities as a team leader and contributor.
On: What is your favorite part of the Football season?
I love the family aspect that develops throughout the season. We all become so tight and coherent. I love going to practice everyday and getting to play a game I love with a bunch of my buddies I’ve had since elementary school. I also love the competitive nature of the game. How often do you get to run around and slam a guy without getting punished? I am a very competitive person; every bone in my body wants to win, and I will do everything I can to pick up a W on Friday nights.
In a year from now what do you want to look back on and remember about this season that is just ahead?
I want to remember winning the state title…haha. No but seriously I just want to remember having a great time with a bunch of my buddies. This sport has been my passion for basically my whole life , I just hope to make the best of it while it lasts. You only get so many Friday nights is what I’m told.
Name some guys who you have been impressed with on your team? Any surprises or young guys standing out?
Noah Dahl is killing it this year. He is on almost every special team and he starts on offense and Defense. He’s making plays everywhere on the field. He works tremendously hard, and I think he is one of those players that has the special x-factor that allows him to push himself above and beyond other players on the field.
Sam Kuschnick is also killing it on defense. He has a tremendous nose for the ball and seems to get in on every tackle. |
|
ON: Why should a college recruit you when there are so many kids out there? What sets you apart?
I believe that I should be recruited because I am not only an exceptional athlete and quarterback, but also have a very good knack for winning. I am, again, very competitive and if I’m on your team I will find a way to win. Guys tend to look up to me and I think the best way to establish yourself as a leader is to inspire leadership in others and thats what I strive to do everyday. |
