At Marysville-Getchell High School looms an up and coming north sound star in super sophomore Collin Montez. This young thoroughbred is coming off a fantastic 1st team All-State 3A selection on the gridiron for the Chargers. Now he is shredding the nets on the hardwood for the Getchell roundball squad. The starting forward is currently averaging 7 points and 5 rebounds a contest. The masterful Montez also started for the Getchell baseball nine last spring as a fabulous freshman.
This young gun burst on to the scene last fall as freshman phenom, packing the pigskin for 607 yards on 75 carries for the Chargers. This season Montez became the workhorse back for Marysville-Getchell. The 6’2″ 200 pounder bludgeoned defenses to the tune of 2,016 yards in 9 games; that is flat out laying the lumber folks! Collin did this work on 268 carries, good for 7.5 yards per carry. He slashed and gashed defenses for 17 touchdowns and averaged 224 yards a game, for a sophomore, those are phenomenal numbers.
Montez was selected as a 1st team All-Wesco North choice as both a running back and a punter, jack of all trades type of an athlete. A flat out true warrior on the football field, Collin packed the rock an amazing 45 times, good for 314 yards and 2 touchdowns, in an overtime loss to Jackson. The sophomore beast also rumbled for 274 yards and 5 scores in a convincing 48-28 win over Lynwood high. This youngster is a tremendous athlete in every sense of the word, big things are ahead for him….watch out Wesco conference!!
