What happens when a terrific football player gets an offer and then the school pulls it back? That happens all the time and yesterday speaking to college coaches at the Oregon 6A Championships things could not have been more clear.
"We have a lot of guys we are waiting on. And the spots are almost full. We try and tell guys but they don't always listen. And when the spots are gone they are gone," said one Big Sky Coach we visited with.
If a kid was a teams first choice and he waits they simply can not jump back in later and make a new scholarship appear. Kids hesitating is one way that all happens.
But in the case of Dallas Hayes of Tahoma High School in Washington the Wyoming Cowboys needs changed. Hayes was a top choice for them but as their season progressed their needs changed. That Defensive Line position apparently was soft and the Coaching staff as the losses mounted were told to firm it up and to do so fast!
So his offer simply dried up and they let him know as much as they felt bad about it they were going to have to use the scholarship to bring in a JC guy. A guy who is ready to start and fresh off 2 years of college level play.
"It is a tough thing. I really did like the Cowboys and they liked me but there was no pressure to decide so I was looking at West Point and some other options too," said Dallas thoughtfully. "Now I am looking for a home for next season like a lot of other guys and I am interested in anyone that is interested in me."
West Point is an option. They really want him. But time will tell on that one.
He is hearing from Pac 12 Schools, Idaho, EWU, CWU, Simon Fraser, and a handful of others.
Hayes is very very strong and man can he run. His film starts off with him rag-dolling a QB- taking the Ball from him and running it in to the House. The next play he swats a pass down, catches it mid air and run it for 6 showcasing really nice speed.
Then he has sack after sack and displays footwork and leverage few guys do at his age. And this is all with him just starting to push things in the weight room!
We love him as a Scholarship player and you can find he and the rest of the guys were touting without major offers in the Best of the Rest and the Top Prospects tab above.
