The Eisenhower Cadets Football out of Yakima made a giant statement in week 1.
Ike upended Columbia Basin Big Nine League favorite Wenatchee 27-21, to make an early season name for themselves. Sophomore gunslinger Chris Sawyer made the most of his first varsity start, tossing the rock around for 397 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Ike’s bread butter guy is wideout Ridge Harmon. Ridge lead the league in receiving last fall, snatching 53 balls for 864 yards and 9 scores. The 6’0″ 180 pound speed demon was a
first team all league selection last year and a 2nd team pick as a super sophomore. Ridge started the season with a big bang, snaring 10 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown.
The Cadets are bolstered by the return of silky smooth wide receiver Darius Pati, a high flying 6’4″ 195 pound senior. Pati missed his junior campaign due to injury. He was an
honorable mention all leaguer as a sophomore when he grabbed 29 passes for 386 yards and 2 scores. Darius also had a monster opener against Wenatchee, catching 5 balls good
for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Ike ground game is led into battle by senior Lucio Peneloza, who rumbled for 88 yards and a score in the home victory over the Panthers. The Cadets defense is spearheaded
by their junkyard dog defense lineman Jose Jimenez, the returning all conference brut is a 6’1″ 250 pound senior. The linebacking crew is paced by their tough as nails senior
Jeremiah Garza, a stalwart 5’11” 200 pounder.
The pesky Cadets had to off set a monster ball game by Wenatchee superstar Isaiah Brandt-Sims. The Stanford commit blistered his way for over 300 yards of total offense. The
senior burner had 151 yards rushing and 144 yards receiving in the hard fought loss. It should be an excellent battle the rest of the season between these two heavyweights in the
CBBN.
