There is no doubt a lot of attention on Pacific Islanders when it comes to football. The style of play and results on the High School and collegiate fields speak for themselves. Hard hitting aggressive kids with big upside and spirit typify the athletes getting scholarships every year. While there are many opportunities to be seen by colleges on the mainland there is really only one big satellite camp every year in Hawaii and that is the GRID IRON PERFORMANCE ACADEMY FOOTBALL COLLEGE SHOWCASE CAMP at the T.C. Ching Field and Athletic Complex at the University of Hawaii on June 10th-12th.
College coaches from all over the USA are showing up to teach and watch the best get after it and the unique thing is that 4 practices are in pads. Many of these “Satellite Camps” are non-padded. This one is done Island Style and it is clear from the number of schools coming over that this is a big time event.
“All the best kids in Hawaii will be there and we have even got the 2 best players from Guam coming who have potential to make a name for themselves at camp,” said co-organizer Chad Ikei. “At this point we are expecting head Coaches from PAC 12 schools and other FBS, D2, D3, and JC’s to attend the camp!”
He and former Hawaii Coach Rich Miano put on the camp which is a three day affair with lots of chalk talk, academics, Educational Sessions on College Preparation for students and families, and football coaching going on. It is a really rare camp to see pulled off.
“We are extremely proud to announce that North Park University has taken a major step forward in recruiting Hawaii over the past 2years. In 2016, our roster we will include players from 7 different High schools including, Punahou, Moanaloa, Radford, Leilehua, Farrington and Kailua. The High school coaches in Hawaii have been committed to the success of their student athletes and have been instrumental in helping them through the recruiting process and getting them to the next level. The Students we recruit from Hawaii are hardworking, respectful, and play at an extremely high level. We are again looking forward to the GPA camp as last year we were able to interactwith many great athletes and meet some awesome coaches and parents.
North Park University is a small Liberal Arts Christian University located in the far North side of Chicago. Our School offers unique opportunities with regard to Majors of study and paid internship opportunities which may not be available in many schools located in rural areas. Our University is accessablefrom the Oahu with daily Nonstop’s to O’Hare International airport which is just 6 miles from the North Park campus.
