Jaydin Proctor Is No Sleeper Recruit

Jaydin Proctor Is No Sleeper Recruit

This has been the season of the transfer.  Transferpocalypse as we termed it has been the biggest storyline of the season.  Regardless of which side you are on one thing is clear; the teams loaded with transfers have reaped the benefits almost everywhere I look.  I do not begrudge the boys who moved on and transferred a thing; that is there right and I am always for supporting them.

But I am not going to lie-  I love the guys who have stayed even more.

Many of the most talented players in the NW are on teams who are struggling to put up the W’s.  The media does not cover these teams and their players much.  Easy to celebrate winners; the real test is to appreciate those on the other side of the equation.  That is why we have been featuring guys who are just as talented as their star counterparts in our Sleeper Recruit category.

Tonight I want to recognize 6’3″- 185 lb.  WR/Safety Jaydin Proctor of David Douglas High School.  This young man has been on the rise for 4 years.  He has competed in many of the offseason 7 on 7 events and is always one of the best talents no matter where we go.  The kid is so good that I can not even believe he is still without major offers; no sleeper recruit by talent, however.

His length and height are great.  He has terrific hands and finishes runs like a big league talent.  While his speed is in that 4.6 range he is no slower than great talents like Cooper Kupp.  We love Jaydin Proctor and surely feel he is in the Big Sky caliber talent pool.

Coaches this is a fine young man who despite being offered many times to move has not.  This loyalty and dedication is noteworthy and another reason, one of many, he is a top recruit to go after!  Check out his film here.

This kid is something special the University of South Florida was looking at him. I’m just my mind boggled that Oregon and Oregon State have not snagged him up. This could be another kid that gets picked up by D1 school out of state.

Thanks Charles – I look at Jacob and Cody Hollister- great kids from Bend- both went out of State – both are on the Patriots now. Pretty good example!

He is definitely a player of the year candidate with everything he has accomplished on both sides of the ball. At the very least I would say Mount Hood Player of the year.

I had the privileged to coach Jaydin in youth football and i saw something special in him then. The kid has a great football IQ on the field and gives 100% effort every time. This year alone he has put up huge numbers on offense and defensively he is a beast at corner. He locked down Clackamas receiver Cole Turner two years in a row.I am proud of him. The question I have Dirk is how do you get a kid with so much talent on the radar of PAC 12 Schools? I sure hope your article helps.

      Joe-

It is far too late for him to get a Pac 12 offer. And truly he is not an unknown entity- people know about him. His speed is the issue. The Pac 12 DB’s and WR are going to be 4.4- 4.5 laser or below. He is not there. Having said that I would not want him to go to a Pac 12- he would red shirt, than sit a year or two and I am confident could start by his 3rd or 4th season. BUT- football is a dangerous and now very much of a deadly sport. If Jaydin can make it to a D1-AA he will start early, contribute, and could rise as he fills out to the position of greatness. This kid needs to play- not sit. The #1 school in the NW for players moving on to the NFL is not Oregon- not by a long shot. Not OSU. Not WSU. No- it is EWU. And that is where he should play in my humble opinion. Let’s be honest- Oregon State needs guys like Jaydin – I would reach out to them. But he needs to be patient and work on his other options. Not PAC 12-

Ok,I saw this guy on Friday night against my Rams and even though we smashed DD, Proctor to me appeared to be their only threat. This guy has skills when it comes to catching the ball and can get DB’s off him quick. I think this kid had well over 200 yards receiving on us easily on Friday. Great receiver in my book. I hope he gets some big time offers because he plays big time just needs to but on a few pounds I think.

Dirk, I read your article on this kid after one of my buddies from David Douglas sent to me For the most part on film i see that he could be a great asset to a college program and I would concur with you that if he went to an Eastern Washington or a Portland State he would start sooner and get more playing time at this point, however i would like to correct you that it is not too late for a PAC 12 School to make him an offer this is a misconception that many get wrong. While most schools are wrapping up their recruiting class most schools offer on average 5 late scholarships due to multiple situations. Arizona State, UCLA and Texas Tech for example offered 4 scholarships each to players last year as late as March. So anything is possible.
With that said this kid has some amazing film. I am not sure if his coach is not getting him enough exposure or what but in reference to his speed most kids at his age will get faster if they are working on that area. Great article and I wish him the best of luck.

      Ramon-

Of course that is not what I meant. It is never too late. The point is that Pac 12 schools have the guys they want. They do add guys late but if you are not on their Board nor have an offer you are added as a late offer and as a practical matter many parents are still waiting for Oregon or WSU to offer their kid when the kid does not even have a PSU or EWU offer. Beyond that these schools are not better places to play for guys who are players- they are not better options for a football career. Time and time again guys make it to the league and to the Super bowl in great numbers from smaller schools. Anytime that Jaydin and his family have should be put int he pursuit of a D1AA offer- to not do so is a grave mistake!

Hey thanks for clarifying that Dirk. I saw hi play last Friday at Douglas with my buddy who has a son on the team and man he is their go to guy for sure he had all three scores i believe. He caught this amazing 35 yard pass with 3 defenders on him. Do you think he could be a candidate for 1st team all state? He sure has the numbers and touchdown receptions compared to other 6A receivers to make a strong case since he is number 1 in receiving yards but thats what one of the coaches told me and my buddy Jake on Friday. What are your thoughts?
