As the football season moved into the playoffs last week another move was being made. And this one has the potential to leave its mark on the landscape of Washington High School football history. Have you been paying attention?

Well if you have you have no doubt heard the news about Jordan Todd, the unstoppable running back at Interlake High School in Bellevue, Washington.

Now the big news from this weekend was that the 5’8″, 180 pound powerhouse back had run for439 yards and 5TD’s leading his team to a 49-41 playoff victory over Franklin-Pierce.

But that is beginning to pale in comparison to what Todd has accomplished this year albeit much of it a bit below the radar. To date here are the Stats Jordan Todd has been able to amass.

  • 2,410 rushing yards on 231 Carries
  • 10.47 Yards per carry
  • 22 Rushing TD’s
  • 9 Catches for 43 yards
  • 11 KO Returns for 539 yards; Average of 49 yards
  • 5 TD’s on Kick return
  • 5 Punt Returns for 86 yards

Total Yardage to Date:   3,078 and 27 TD’s

This season Blaine High School’s running back Mario Gobbato gave Matthias Wilson’s single-season rushing record of 2,678 yards from 1997 a run, but came up just 9 yards short of tying the mark. Gobbato rushed for a season-high 386 yards on 36 carries, as he surpassed 300 yards for the fifth time this season.

Gobatto, just a Junior at Blaine, fell just 6 yards shy of tying the record.

But could Jordan Todd put up another 268 yards and tie Wilson’s record?  Well the back from Interlake who has been called “too small” maybe one too many times is knocking on the door.  And no point in beating around the bush.  It is on his mind and something he and his Coach jason Rimkus have spoken about. Coach Rimkus is in his second year at the helm of Interlake after moving over from Bothell and has done a super job indeed.

“I am aware of it and as great as that would be it would be even better to beat Lynden this week,” said an upbeat and confident Todd.  “If our line keeps doing the great job they have all year I am going to give it all I have…. that is for sure.”

Now the Saints of Interlake take on powerhouse Lynden who escaped with a win last week over North Thurston 29-26.    Lynden is a multiple State Champion and any yardage Todd gets will be hard fought no doubt.

He is shifty and makes plays happen especially when a play breaks down and that is where his strength is.  His speed and muscular frame also help making him even harder to stop.

Collegiately it has been pretty quiet but he has had a full ride offer to play for Division 2 New Mexico Highlands where a former Interlake Coach who knows about Todd is at.  That is a nice option Todd says but he is interested in others as well.

“Lynden is going to be a really tough game so we are getting prepared already.  I am just so greatful to have team mates and coaches like this and to be a oart of it all,” he concluded.

What a great kid and his 2,410 yards rushing puts him right at the top of the leader board with at least one week to go.  We wish him the very best if luck in making the record and regardless of the outcome congratulate he and his team on such a fine season.
