Kahlil Dawson Gains D-1 Offer And Secures Collegiate Options A Year Early

One of the great relationships we have is with the fine folks who run the Army All American Games. That means over the years that they look to us for nominations for kids to play in the game an to attend the Nations best combine which is held the day before the game.

This year for the 4th year in a row we were asked to nominate the best of the best who we felt could go to Texas and show what the Evergreen State had to offer.

WashingtonPreps.com has been following the Seniors with razor precision right now. We owe them that. But do not think for a minute we are not fully entrenched on the Juniors.

On our list for the 2012 event, held the first week of this month, was Graham-Kapowsin High School Corner Back Kahlil Dawson.

We have been tracking Dawson since 10th grade year and know form watching he he is special. There are very few defensive backs who can react and read like he can. He has great ball skills, quick reaction and even faster lateral motions. His hips, feet, and hands never stop moving.

So he was invited after an All League season in 2011 to go to the Alamo Dome and compete. He went and showed up and not only that he “showed out” as they say.

That led to an All Combine Honorable Mention Nomination by the Rivals.com National staff. Dawson was one of 4 kids from Washington who earned top camp honors out of about 700 of the Nations very best who went.

Fast forward to tonight and we have a young man who has received his first offer. And it is from a school who have found a HUGE appetite for the best kids in the region.

The Wyoming Cowboys!

The Cowboys have DJ May, Uso Olive, Trent Sewell and other kids committed from Oregon and Washington. They are hungry for more so the Cowboys after reviewing Kahlil’s film have decided they want his services for next year.

“It is really great. I still need to speak with Coach Pete Kaligas but overall it sounds 100% like a solid offer,” said Dawson who was notified by his coaches at school the Wyoming wanted to offer.

How does it feel?

“Awesome. It is a a load off. I feel like the weight has been lifted a little and I can relax and play and just go about my business a little more focused,” said Dawson. “This is a nice fit for me maybe. Time will tell.”

What about his dreams? Is there a school he thinks of often when he starts to think about college?

Dawson had a couple dream schools saying, “The Huskies for sure. But I have not heard form them much. Also where my family is from. North Carolina. I could dig the Tar Heels.”

But he knows too not too get ahead of himself as he sees a lot of kids struggling to find their way right now in the Class of 2012.

“I am going to hit Summer Camps at colleges and show the coaches what I got. That is the strategy. Combines and all that is fine but I am focusing my energy on getting in front of Coaches,” he said wisely.

What about the Combine in Texas and the Alamo Dome? What was that like?

“I went down hoping to show I could compete with the best. And I felt I did just that. Overall the facility, the people, the event, the competition… all of it was one of the greatest experiences of my life,” he said. “I know I can compete with the nest in the Nation and the All Camp award was icing on the cake really. It was not really expected.”

Watch Kahlil Dawson all year as he is going to be a leader in State in the Class of 2013 and already is ahead of 99% of the guys out there. He says he will look hard at Wyoming and appreciates the offer very much.

“It is just such a great honor. I really look forward to speaking with the coaches there very soon,” he concluded.

Catch some highlights here for Kahlil from last season.
