Kentwood’s Josiah Bronson Helps Team To 2-0 Start

The Kentwood Conquerors are no strangers to putting up wins in the sports arenas.  Overtime they have been a very good top tier team which has at times been nothing short of terrific.  This year is for certain off to a great start winning both of their first 2 games by nice margins;  in week 2 they beat Emerald Ridge 35-14 and in week 1 they pounded the Curtis Vikings 43-0.  The offense and defense are getting it done with power football and the reason is they have a line that may be one of the best in the State.

Josiah Bronson was a total beats at the NWEFC camp in June and showcased excellent speed and size! Now he is helping Kentwood really get it done!

Josiah Bronson was a total beats at the NWEFC camp in June and showcased excellent speed and size! Now he is helping Kentwood really get it done!

Leading that group is Josiah Bronson; a 6’6″- 265 lb hard charging Defensive End and Tight End.  We met Josiah in the off season and he looks the part of a seasoned college player; his 265 lbs is all there with little but muscle and bone in a massive frame.  Best of all he is agile.  He was an MVP at camps and a lot of Collegiate staff members were asking about him.  Little did he know.

Bronson is not that well known but his 4 sacks and 23 tackles in the first 2 games and his Summer efforts should change all that.  Kentwood has some good games ahead with Tahoma and Federal Way coming up in the next 3 weeks so things will get interesting.  If the Conks can keep it up they will be a playoff contender and maybe more.

“On defense I am doing well.  I guess over on the Tight End side things are good too.,” said Josiah who is doing a great job setting the edge and blocking upfield so far.

Bronson caught 2 passes in game one and 3 in game 2 and scored a nice TD as well.  How would you like to try and stop a legit 265 lbs. big man with wheels past the line of scrimmage?  No thank you!

He continued, “It’s fun playing both ways.  On offense we are setting up a nice set of plays.  Depending on the down and distance we use lots of different looks and I love the play-action so far.  Blocking is great and it be great to keep catching some balls too and add that option to our offense.”

What about Defense?  After all that seems to be where a kid like this can shine.

“Yes the colleges speaking to me seem to be looking at me being on defense.  That is just fine with me because if I have a favorite it is defensive end!”

Colleges in touch so far are Washington, Oregon, Idaho, EWU, and Colorado.  As he shows his ability more and more schools will be looking harder at this guy.

Now it took a lot to get Josiah to speak about himself as he is the ultimate team guy so the few quotes above took some doing.  He wanted me to make sure I knew about a number of other kids.  Those guys included QB Brian Campbell and receiver Kaleb Swain as well as 5’10” 165 lb. Junior running back Isaiah Williams who is having a great start making the green machine machine run on the ground.

Up front it is Junior Jared Goldwire- an almost 6’9″ and 275 lbs man child playing left tackle who we have as the top kid in his Class in Football and in Basketball potentially.  Goldwire is a Lakes kid who transferred to O’Dea last year and while we are waiting for the entire story he was banned last season from participating in sports.  So this year he moved into the Kentwood district and is a total monster out there so far.

2 years ago I shot this picture of Jared Goldwire at 6'7" starting as a freshmen at Lakes. He is much bigger now and has great ability to move!

“He is nice!  Really a great athlete and one of the best left tackles I have seen,” said Bronson who no doubt battles Jared in practice a lot.

Add right into the middle of these twin towers 6’3″- 325 lb road grader Paul Finau and you have a substantial front group.  Paul is also a Junior and a proto-type run stuffer capable of swallowing up 2 gaps up front.

Makani Mafua, also a Senior, had 2 interceptions against Curtis and is having a great season as well.

Kentwood has a lot of fans and this is a special group of kids both Juniors and Seniors so they and Head Coach Rex Norris might just have a little something cooking right now.

No doubt Josiah Bronson is going to be right in the middle of things all season long and we will be watching he and all these talented kids.
Here by our pal James Kielland is the pics set to music the way only he can!
