The Enumclaw Hornets out of the South Puget Sound League 3A division are a pesky bunch of hardballers. Leading the way for the Hornets is talented 3rd sacker Eric Koenig. Eric and his Enumclaw bunch had a heck of a run on the diamond last spring finishing in 3rd place at state. That meant a memorable trip to Safeco field for the final four.
This year the Hornets have not missed a beat, they are currently sitting at 14-2. They are ranked 4th in the latest Seattle Times baseball poll.
Koenig, a 6’0″ 190 pound senior had a week that make most players seasons. The week of April 17-23, Koenig went absolutely nuts. In 6 games he went 13 for 20 at the dish. He hit 8 homers to go with 18 r.b.i.’s and 13 runs scored.
For that gigantic accomplishment Koenig was named the Seattle Times Star of the week. Last season Koenig was a 2nd team All-SPSL
selection as a big bopping infielder. He batted .368 a year ago, with a rock solid .463 on base percentage.
Enumclaw has some other standout veterans to lean on for their post season run. Returning SPSL MVP Michael Lucarelli is a rocket firing relief pitcher and stalwart shortstop for the Hornets 9.
1st sacker Cody Hughes is a fence busting 3 year starter for the Enumclaw ball club. The ace of the staff is right hander Marcus Madden, a flame throwing senior. The outfielders are led by big hitting do it all senior Kyle Thomson.
