Kolney Cassel Closing In On His Dreams

Blessed with a cannon Kolney Cassel is one Northwest talent who is garnering more and more attention as the days and weeks go by.

In 2011 the Eisenhower High School QB had a nice season playing in 8 games and amassing almost 2700 yards. He led the region for big school QB’s with 305 yards per game. His accuracy was good and is improving.

In January Kolney returned from the Army All American Combine in San Antonio, Texas with an honorable mention to his credit which was big. Since that time he has hit as many as 3 work outs a week and because he lives in Yakima is having to drive 3-5 hours one way to get where he is trying to go every time.

With as many as 20 schools recruiting him openly Cassel is a hot prospect. He is however still waiting on that first major offer. And he can taste it at this point.

“I am hoping things continue to progress for me. There was a lot of interest last year and again this year but things seem to be picking up more then ever,” said Cassel as we caught up to him

Kolney Cassel was named Honorable Mention All Combine at the Army All American Combine in San Antonio, Texas last month and is getting closer and closer to his dream!

It is not easy to point to one thing that has set him at the top of this class of QB's. He has the size and athleticism you want to see in a top QB prospect and he has great overall strength and balance. He has great presence and good football smarts or IQ as many like to term it.

But that arm. Oh my that arm is powerful.

Blessed with a cannon Kolney Cassel is one Northwest talent who is garnering more and more attention as the days and weeks go by.

"I am hoping things continue to progress for me. There was a lot of interest last year and again this year but things seem to be picking up more then ever," said Cassel as we caught up to him at Coach John Charles Air One Football Academy in Vancouver, Washington Sunday.

The 6'2" & 205 pound gunslinger is heading to WSU for a meeting with the Cougars and the Wizard himself; Coach Mike Leach. Many feel he would be a perfect fit for Leach's pass happy offense that tends to feature a shotgun spread look with as many as 5 receivers.

That offense often is in no-huddle-mode and requires the QB to quickly read the defenses and get the ball on target. Cassel is especially strong at both of those skills. So this visit will be an interesting one for both he and the Cougars. He likes the program and says he could play there no problem!

Boise State, Duke, SMU. Alabama, UCLA, USC, Arizona, and a host of others are filling up his mail box. If he has a good off season and continues to work good things will happen.

His talent is just too good for them not to.

Catch the plays we shot of Kolney Cassel working out on Sunday at Air One and a nice interview we did with him after the Camp. We will keep you informed as he progresses this Spring and wish him the very best of luck!
