The mighty Crusaders of Eastside Catholic high school in Sammamish are coming off a huge state championship win over Bellevue, snapping the Wolverines 67 game winning streak and run of 6 straight 3A state titles. Eastside dominated the powerhouse Bellevue boys 35-13. One of the top guns for the Crusaders is sure handed junior wideout Matt Laris.

Last fall young Mr. Laris was named a 2nd team All-Metro receiver as Eastside went on to fall to Bellevue in the state title contest. As a super sophomore, the sticky fingered Laris snatched 30 balls good for 431 yards and 4 touchdowns.
How bout this season you ask? Well, the young juggernaut has flat out busted loose. The talented 6’4″ 210 pound junior snared 72 catches for 1,394 yards and 16 touchdowns for the 3A state champions. Laris went absolutely ballistic in the Crusaders state semi-final win at Mt. Spokane. The silky smooth receiver caught 8 balls for 234 yards and 2 touchdowns in Eastside’s 42-24 win in Spokane.
Matt and his vaunted crew at Eastside still have one more battle ahead of them. The Crusaders will play in the first annual Burger King State Champions series in Florida on December 27th. The vaunted Eastside crew will go to battle with Trinity Christian Academy, Florida’s 3A state champion at noon on ESPNU.
Matt Laris has already been named to the Seattle Times all classifications All-State team this season. He was also a first team All-Metro selection wide receiver. The superbly talented Laris is also an outstanding outfielder for the Eastside baseball nine.
If you think the Crusaders gridiron work is done after this state title….think again. Next season along with Matt Laris the Eastside boys also return big time skill players like Washington Husky commit Brandon Wellington, amazingly talented 2-year starting quarterback Harley Kirsch, as well as up and coming 2017 tight end Hunter Bryant among others. Watch out kids.
