McQuery Looks Forward To Complete Season Ahead

One of the guys powering the success that Bellarmine Prep had last season was 6'2"- 305 pound Macartney McQuery.  At least the last 1/2 of the season. The big linemen is looking ahead to the 2012 Season where he feels he will be ready to play his best football.

He will be one of several Seniors back and plans on helping the Lions get another shot at a Title.  And this year will be the 4th year he has seen action as a Varsity player.  He is one of 5 players who were brought up onto the Varsity his Freshmen year.  A group that includes QB Sefo Liufau and WR-OLB Calvin Chandler among others.

"We are really looking forward to making an impact this year.  This is something everyone has worked for and there is no doubt we have the right attitude and players to go deep into the playoffs again," said Macartney who hungers to win it all.

It has not been easy for the big fellah.  He had a pretty severe concussion his Sophomore campaign and missed some games and admits the after effects of that took their toll going into the Spring and Summer last season too. In fact he struggled with some grade issues and had to miss the first 5 games last Fall before rejoining the team mid-season on the field.

"The injury was pretty severe.  And I am fine now but it was something that no one really knew was effecting me in school.  But it was," he offered saying his GPA has stabilized and that he is in 100% health right now.

Chomping at the bit he is working for off field improvements in his speed, agility, and quickness.  And he can not wait to be put to the test; especially in the big games.

"You know what I love the pressure!  The bigger the stakes the more I am going to step up.  There were a number of times last season that we needed to make things happen.  When the chips are down or we are needing a play I just go into a zone.  That is when I am my best," he said as we spoke about some big moments last season where he felt he shined.

So this year Macartney sees the chance to get a full season, play at 100% health, and be with all of his team mates.  Most of his Class is back and the Lions will be a potent squad no doubt.

"It is going to be a great season I think.  We play Lakes early in the year and that will be a great test.  The team I want a shot at is Skyline.  That would be great if we could play them.  But really I am going to be ready to help the team no matter what."

He will hit the Nike NFTC Camp June 10th and has a few other events in mind.  Then it is off to some Summer camps with the hopes of impressing college coaches and programs.  He has a few looking at him as an interior O'Linemen and no doubt is going to be one of the top big men in the Northwest this season.  He is a powerhouse kid and does a great hob of finishing his blocks.

Here is some film on Macartney McQuerey and we will follow up on he and his story throughout the coming months.
