For some Summer fun and a change of pace NWPR is going to take a stab at how we will see the season getting going in the year ahead when that first football is kicked off into the night skies of the Pacific Northwest. We quit doing polls and picks a long time ago but what the heck! The first day of Summer is here so regardless of levels here are just a few notes on teams to watch as the new season begins to take shape and who we think as of right now should be in the Top 12 Preseason picks for the State of Washington.
Washington Top 12 Team for 2015 – Pre-Season Poll
1- Bellevue–
Come on. These guys could be National Champs again. Truly! The Wolverines will be led by Junior Justus Rogers at QB, Mustafa Branch at RB, Ross Conners, Henry Roberts, Isaiah Gilchirst, Isaac Anderson, and Ryan Bowman, and the list goes on. They Open against Serra in the Honor Bowl Classic against California Champs Serra in Oceanside; a game of National significance.
56-0 in 4 years – going for 7 Titles and 12 out of 14 years
2- Chiawana
After a shocker to beat Camas in the 4 A State Final with 11 seconds left we wonder if they have another run in them? The answer is Yes! Led by a LOADED Line featuring Juan Noyola and Jake Martin and with skill players Austin Urlacher (RB/ATH) and Dre Dorton at WR this group can Grind you into submission- we can not go against a Champion until they are beaten- Watch for Caleb Weber too rise up too!
Last Year – 27-26 Win for State Champs!
3- Eastside Catholic
Oh Boy this is a talented group- 3 years in a row to the State 3 A Finals- and they have come up short against Bellevue. Led By Junior Harley Kirsch (Wyoming+) at QB 6’4”- 215 – they are such a deep squad. Guys like Alex Neale at Center, Deion Fetui at NG, Brody McKnight (top 2017 O’ line prospect), D-1 bound Cody Baker at DE, and Henry Jarvis at RB they are just so very good.
Last season – Lost Championship to Bellevue
4: Bothell
The Blue Train is rolling. – Look for Ross Bowers at QB who has D1-1 offers to go to the air to the best receiver core in the State in Dayzell Wilson, Jackson Keimig, Cole Ford, and Sam McPherson – these 4 guys plus a huge cast of talent has this team poised to rock it again this season. They can win the 4 A for sure.
Last Season- The Cougars lost in the semis last season 20-17 to a gritty Bellarmine Prep team
5: Camas
The Papermakers moved up to 4 A and ran the table all the way to the final 1 minute and lost to Chiawana. That will not end this team. They have talent- deep talent- and the coaching beyond most programs. Their amazing town and youth program is springing up football players all over the place. We think they will be tough again! Players to watch are James Price 6’2”- 195 lbs WR stud and Alex Walker – 6’4”- 260 TE / DE.
Last Season – last second loss to Chiawana 27-26
6: Bellarmine Prep
Never count this crew ofut of a Top 10 finish. Last season they ran out of Gas 49-21 against Camas in the final 4 but made the Papermakers pay physically and in doing so they proved their place-
Watch for Matt Philichi – best Kicker in the region to be a secret weapon. for an already talented team!
7: O’Dea Fighting Irish
Myles Gaskin is the most explosive two way guy in the 3 A- He will not be stopped this season. They Have a rising star in Montique Edwards and a list of talent as always- Their run first domination just works
Watch for Mikel Owems a 6’1” WR and Davarea Proctor at CB (5’10” 200).
They lost a final 4 game 28-14 to Eastside Catholic or they would have played Bellevue.
8: Federal Way
The Eagles have been on quite a roll the last few years – Chico McClatcher – The Blue Mamba- 20 plus offers will lead this squad all over the field. The 5’8” 180 lbs- 4.35 speedster is a freak play maker. The y are deep in hard working talented kids who now how to grind and can go all the way! Watch Jared Pulu at FB/LB as a guy who can devastate teams in many ways-
Last season they lost to state Champ Chiawana 40-7 in the final 4 last season.
9- Skyline
People sort of checked out on Skyline last season as it was a bit of an off year. Not us- we love them. They are deeply talented- great kids- and have a college caliber coaching staff to rival anyone. Watch for Cam Saffle to dominate at LB walk up DE, Derek Loville – 6’3”- 185 lbs at WR, Riley Griffiths at O Line who is a rising stud, and Rashaad Boddie at RB – 6’o” and 225-230 lb 4.4 sprinter speed who we feel will go for 2,000 yards plus in a break out season. Question is who will the QB be? And will they run before pass? Oh my! This team can go all the way in the 4A which we see as an open race.
Last season they were beaten in Playoffs By Fed Way 26-20
#10: Marysville-Pilchuck
The Tomahawks are tough as nails and they are loaded again this year. Austin Joyner – RB /CB (WSU commit) will lead them again – almost 4,000 yards coming in to this year. Drew Hatch at LB and Bryce Vitcovich at DL, and Nicky Alonso are just a few of the names we see on that roster that can lead this team deep!
They lost in the Playoffs to Eastside Catholic- 42-35 in a thriller
#11 – Meadowdale-
They made the round of 8 before falling to Eastside Catholic 21-16 – This is a very good football team and Malik Braxton is rising star at RB- Big Fast back of elite capability!
#12- Graham – Kapowsin
They went to 10-0 before a rising Bothell squad cut them down. They lost a lot of guys but we want to see how they come along in 2014. Watch Foster – Sarrell- 6’7-265 lbs Freshmen Linemen who many have said is one of the best Freshmen they have ever seen – he has D1 offers already and is special.
Others on our lists we reviewed for the final 12 – JUANITA, Shadle Park, Newport, Evergreen (Vancouver), Union, Ferris, Mountain View, and Wenatchee
