Playoff Level Game Goes Down In Tigard

Playoff Level Game Goes Down In Tigard

In consideration of the game I attended the other night I needed a day or two to review all the film.  Below you can watch me capture about 15 minutes of the game from the sideline- the action was considerable.  This game was a battle of two of Oregon’s 6A super powers. West Linn was licking their wounds from a shocking loss to #2 Sherwood the week before and Tigard is just trying to prove they are a top team to the Media types and the OSAA for the power rankings. While the game would end up in favor of West Linn 48-28 behind an amazing night for Junior Elijah Molden, who had 160 yards rushing and 5 TD’s, this one felt like a playoff game.

The stars were out for sure.  West Linn is the most explosive offense we have seen in a year or two- Tim Tawa the much hyped Junior QB really is that good – 14 of 21 and 300 plus yards and 3 TD’s on the night.  He is now at 29 TD’s on the season and has one of the fastest releases we have seen.  He hit star Wide Receiver Connor Berggren for back to back touchdowns early before Tigard began to adjust and tighten up those passing lanes.  Hayden Coppedge, a fellow Lion wide receiver, did a nice job all night advancing the chains for West Linn and nearly caught a deep TD pass which was broken up by Tigard’s Michael Casuguay.

Braden Lenzy for the Tigers had big plays all night on both sides of the ball and his coverage of Berggren along with the Tigers secondary silenced the Lions passing game.  With the game tied at 21 each in the 3rd D1 4 Star prospect Elijiah Molden put the hammer down and hit 6th gear shredding the Tigers defense for 3 late game rushing TD’s.  His feet are so fast and his moves so next level that few can stop him.  Molden in our book separated himself form the rest of the NW recruits with the exception of Salvon David-Ahmed of Juanita High in Kirkland , Washington who is already committed to the Washington Huskies.  Molden has offers from Oregon, Washington, Stanford, and WSU among others.

Some things that we learned looking ahead-

  • West Linn overall is the most explosive offense we have seen-
  • Tigard can defend the pass and had several stops on West Linn which kept them in the game until late
  • West Linn has a defensive group in Molden, Linebacker Sam Chitty and Dylan Tuor, as well as their D-Line that can stop a run based attack the level of Tigards.
  • Tigard’s run game is still unstoppable- Jash Allen and Peyton Olson are both capable of running people over and the Tigard O-Line is just too big to stop- they rushed again for 300 yards.
  • Conner Crist and Derek McMurray remain impressive as two of the top 5 big men in the State and they played both sides all night.
  • Junior Alex Forsyth showed almost freakish strength and skill for the Lions also playing every down – he just continues to rise.
  • Molden is the best of the best anywhere in Oregon right now.
  • Qawi Ntsasa is a speedster and rising fast as a guy for the future for the Lions- he plays DB, Slot, and Lick return.
  • Both teams are loaded-  West Linn is going to be tough to stop and the Lions are right there with Sheldon,  Sherwood, and Jesuit for the #1 slot- and Tigard despite 4 losses (All to top 10 teams) is only getting better!

Having said all that enjoy the film from the sideline!  Congrats to both teams for having such tremendous commitment to the game of football.
