Sam Noyer Leads Beavers Over Apollos And Looks The Part

By this time next season Quarterback Sam Noyer (6’4″-215 lbs) of Beaverton, Oregon will be in Boulder, Colorado playing football if all goes as planned.  His scholarship offer awaits him and the Buffaloes who are enjoying the services of Tacoma, Washington QB Sefo Liufau will be ready.  They like their NW guys up there in Boulder.

Beaverton Beavers

The Beavers are 5-1 now and are undefeated in Metro League action!

Friday I watched Noyer get it done again leading his team to a nice win over the Sunset Apollos 22-7.   It was not a flashy win but a workmanlike win and while I would not say either team is loaded with stars they are both playoff level teams.  Noyer is no doubt the most complete QB in the State in the Class of 2016 and that is a pretty crowded house.  He is a leader in Yardage and Pass attempts in the State.  Probably beyond his beautiful deep passes it is his ability to stretch plays, evade tackles, and roll out and run that translate the best to the big stage in the Pac 12.  When he is pressured he responds and he wins!

Sam is getting some good protection from an average size line but a great group and has a growing list of weapons including Eric Hurd (2 Interceptions and 1 TD on the night), Carson Crawford a rising Junior receiver, Carter Olsen another Senior receiver, and Mataio Talalemotu who is probably a top 5 two way player in the State of Oregon this year.

Adding to this is the return of injured RB Anthony Albright.  The kid is only 5’6″ but he is 188 lbs and has a 4.4 40 yard dash to turn the jest on.  He has been nursing an injured ankle.  The Beavers also got some nice work form RB King Weatherly.

Sunset competed every play and never walked off with their heads down.  Their secondary led by guys like Alex Stickel (Senior safety) and Alex McMillan made it hard for Noyer and his crew batting away several and breaking up more then their fair share of deep passes from Noyer.

Junior Qb Jason Dumont has some excellent skills and is getting better; a promise for the games to come no doubt.  Jake Focht, Carter Webb, and Bobby Chopra all aided the Sunset attack on offense.  They did a good job moving the ball up and down the field but did not have an answer in the Red Zone. Linemen Cody Brown and Quinn Fitzpatrick among others looked good in the loss.

Both teams will gain playoff berths in the Metro League and with a few adjustments will compete.  As always these teams played hard and their Rivalry now extends past 50 years.  The Night was also a “purple-out” with both sides wearing purple for fallen Sunset student Nathalie Traller who fought a rare form of Cancer for years before passing this last week.  Read more on Nathalie here.  Seeing the Beaverton kids shed their Orange and put on Purple was a special tribute to a girl that battled until the end.
