Shashi Penn Helps Team To Final 4

Shashi Penn Helps Team To Final 4

It is always great when a guy that was a stand out as a 10th grader keeps improving and getting better.  Even nicer when he is a good kid and a hard worker with his eyes on a Team First approach.  Ashland’s super athlete Senior Shashi Penn has never pushed himself on recruiters or media types- he has had an open door with me and yet only send me updates when he has something to show.  This latest contact has us convinced he has become the total package.

The 5’10” Senior is perhaps the best slot back in the State.  He is one fine corner as well.  On special teams he is a threat every single kick to take it for 6.  He has consistently risen skill wise so that each time we evaluate him he is a little faster, a little quicker, more polished- and more complete as a player.  While many athletes table off from their Junior to Senior year he has not.  This most recent film is the best we have seen him put out. He is fast for sure- but that change in speed and direction is uncanny.  Most guys that are fast can not alter their speed and stride like this guy.

He and the Grizzlies are facing Wilsonville this week;  their toughest opponent this season since they played #2 Crater in a loss earlier this year.  Many believe Wilsonville who is #9 in the OSAA power rankings was really a top 3 team.  With just 4 teams left, Ashland being one of them, Penn is going to need a perfect game as will all his team mates if they are going to repel the rising Wildcats led by a host of future collegiate recruits.

Ashland hosts Wilsonville in the top of the bracket and Crater will host Summit of Bend in the bottom half this Friday.  See that OSAA 5A Bracket here.
