Skyview Downs Skyline in Double OT Thriller- Zac Shomler Reviewed

Probably the most exciting game in the WIAA Football playoffs last Friday took place in Samamish, Washington where the Skyview Storm dropped in to play the Skyline Spartans.  The game was all Skyline early on but as it went on Skyview settled in and mounted one of the great comeback wins we can remember in the past few years.

On two occasions throughout this game the Storm trailed by 21 points but just kept battling back; something that is always hard to do against powerful Skyline.

Zac Shomler, the Storms Senior QB,  was the man in this one.  He connected with Bryson Enge on a 10-yard scoring pass to get Skyview within 24-10 at halftime. Shomler came out hot in the second half and threw a touchdown pass of 21 yards to Marcus Lord in the 3rd..  He followed that up in the fourth by tossing a  23 yard bullet to Jeremiah Wright to tie the game.

Zac Shomler- Skyview HS (WA) 2015- NWPR ALL CAMP First Team- Big win against Skyline.  He is seen here with legendary QB Coach John Charles of AirOneFootball who trains many of the best in the region.

For the game Zac was 35 of 51 for 437 yards and 4 TD’s; no interceptions.

This is something he has been capable of all year but the run oriented Storm don’t often unleash him.  Trained by All American John Charles in the off season, Shomler attended the Elite 11 in California and was singled out by Trent Dilfer as a kid he felt had huge upside.

He proved it last Friday.

The game ended in the second overtime when Braden Hadfield kicked a field goal to take the lead and then the Storm defense stopped star Running Back Rashaad Boddie at the goal line on 4th down.

The Final Score was 34-31 in Double OT.  It was a thriller and these are two of our favorite teams in the State.

“The team finally settled in,” said Shomler.  “You know it’s “Skyline” and all so we were nervous.”

He went on, “The defense was huge and stepped up allowing the offense to do what we had to do.  The big flea flicker pass play closed the lead down and was a big momentum shifter.”

The GSHL League appears to be the best in State this season with Skyview finishing 3rd.  League rivals Union and Camas moved on to the next round this Friday and Saturday.  Catch the bracket here.

“The GSHL is I think the best league in the State right now,” he added.  “The game was the best game I have ever been in, the guys were just phenomenal, and we persevered and bounced back.  That has sort of been the theme this season.”

Recruiting wise Shomler is still an unknown for the most part but has been offered by Lewis and Clark College of the Division 3 and is planning to attend school there unless something changes.

“The campus and degrees there are awesome.  The Coaches and staff are even better and I love the NW Conference.  I am likely to go there- it is not quite 100% but close.  We just need to focus on the next game up in Wenatchee this week and try to get the win.”

Zac Shomler is an outstanding student and exceptional athlete and we are happy for his big game effort this week.
