WIAA TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP AMAZES

We take a good look at some of the unbelievable top performers at this years state 2A-3A-4A track and field championships, held at Mt. Tahoma high school. Some really amazing athletes putting on a terrific show.

Ferris high school senior beast Damon Unland won his 3rd straight 4A discus title with a gigantic heave of 185’-05”. Unland also unloaded in the shot put, finishing 2nd with a rocket-toss of 57’08.5”.

Bellevue high school football stars Myles Jack and Budda Baker decided to blister the track at Mt. Tahoma. Leading Bellevue to the 3A boys title, they both ran on the winning 4×100 meter and 4×400 meter relay teams. Jack zipped his way to a 2nd in the 200 meters(22.18) and a 3rd in the 400 meters(49.05). Baker blazed his way to the 100 meter title in 10.77 seconds, while soaring to a 3rd place finish in the long jump at 22’8.25”.  Pic by Keith Currie.

The Wenatchee missile Isaiah Brandt-Sims recorded his 3rd straight 100meter-200meter double double in the boys 4A meet. He won the 100m in  10.71 and the 200m in 21.48. Brandt-Sims also led the Panthers to a 4th place finish in the 4×100 meter relay and a 3rd place showing in the 4×400 meter relay. Flat out flying!  Sim's team mate 6'8" Cody O'Connell took the shot put with a throw of almost 60 feet; not quite his 62' toss from earlier this year but the WSU bound linemen was awesome!

Federal Way freshman phenom Tyson Penn helped lead the Eagles to the boys 4A title, by soaring 6’8” to win the high jump.

Foss high school speed demon Marcus Chambers won both the 3A 200meters and 400 meters. Chambers won the 200m in 21.30 and the 400m in 46.36.

In the 2A ranks, Tumwater junior jumping jack Lane Russell won the triple jump by flying 47’1”. Russell also placed 2nd in the long jump at 22’0.25”. Fellow Thunderbird Andrew Brown set 2A meet records in winning both the 200 meters(21.49) and 400 meters(47.10).

On the girls side, an astonishing performance by Kamiakin junior burner Ellie Heiden. She won the 3A 100 meters(12.17), 200 meters(24.6), 400 meters(54.15) and anchored the Braves winning 4×200 meter relay team. That's getting it done kids.

Glacier Peak senior Amy-Eloise Neal blasted her way to a meet record in the 3A 800 meters, winning in 2:08.6. Neal also cruised to the win in the 1600 meters, giving her 7 individual state titles in her distinguished career at the Peak.

Squalicum senior Gina Flint set the 2A meet record in the girls discus with an enormous throw of 161’11”. Flint won the event by over 37 feet, an amazing accomplishment. Flint also set the meet record in winning the shot put, with a monster chuck of 47’6.75”.

Tumwater junior rocket-ship Brooke Feldmeier won the 400 meters in a meet record 54.37. She also dashed to wins in the 200 meters(24.8) and 100m hurdles(14.88)

And finally in what can only be described as "breath taking" the Federal Way boys and Girls worked their tails off to each win the 4A State Title!  MAN WAY TO GO EAGLES!!  There were so many amazing performances all we can do is refer you to the great story in the Federal Way Mirror!   http://www.federalwaymirror.com/sports/208886611.html
