In our continued quest to bring our readers the best stories in the NW region we continue to cover our Alumni. Kids we covered in the past decade have already paved the road map for this years class and all you have to do is read all the ways our kids are getting it done. Earlier today we covered Lawyer Tillman of North Thurston High who is on the squad at Auburn as a walk on and is heading to the BCS Championship against Florida State! Let’s follow that up with the story of 2013 Tigard High School star RB Zach Floyd.
In our continued relationship with Siskiyous JC in Weed, California we were able to introduce quite a few NW studs to Coach Charlie Roche. One of them was Floyd who as all but invincible at Tigard and a guy that many felt was Big Sky or Pac 12 caliber. Grades were an issue so off he went to play JC ball there.
It took him 2 or 3 games to get into the groove and he had to compete but he got some quality touches and in 5 games produced some excellent film. He racked up 500 yards and 5 TD’s before he broke his leg. Next year he should see serious action and have a real chance to make it through all the way.
“I was just finding my groove when I got hurt,” said Zach who is getting his Cast off in 2 or 3 days and says he will be in PT the first day back.
He is doing good in school and loves the atmosphere and team.
“It is a great fit. Coach is a man of his word and he is taking care of all us NW guys and giving us our shot!”
Watch Zach Floyd and realize that Siskiyous is the closest place a guy can play JC football anywhere near Oregon or Washington and they play serious ball there. Most all of their players are D-1 Caliber guys and they have featured many top recruits who have gone there and gone on to major programs. We have covered this before but they are the only California JC that can offer money to Oregon kids. So get in touch with the program if your thinking about playing JC Football.
