Zack Borisch and Family Reflect American Dream

Zack Borisch is not a household name in the High School football world.  Making it as a Quarterback is not easy and despite the fact that this kid has the mental and physical skills to go big he is still trying to get his name out there.  Don’t get me wrong- he is a legit QB who had a great 2015 season leading the Kamiakin Braves into the playoffs last season.  They had a nice run loosing to Lakes 53-34 who went on to play in the Final 4 loosing to State Champion Eastside Catholic.  Borisch had excellent stats and was among the best in Washington State despite not playing more then a a 1/2 or so in some games.

Zach Borisch and his Mother Maria are on their way back from the Pan American Judo Championships today

You can watch Zach, a right handed gunner, right here.

There is, as they say, a lot more to the story with this guy.  Football may be his ticket to college but other things take center stage in his life and the life of his dynamic Family from the Tri Cities, Washington. Judo for one.  Zach just got back from the Cadet Pan-American Championship which was held in Cordoba, Argentina and in his first International appearance he took the Bronze.  Pretty awesome for a 16 year old High School kid fighting against the World’s best.

He is a highly decorated fighter competing since he was very young and along with his Dad, Robert, works out and teaches at Tri City Judo.   Zach and his siblings — sisters Morgan, 26, and Asia, 13, and brothers Samuel, 18, and Gabe, 7 all work out at the family gym and grew up around the sport.

Zach wins regularly and was recently given National press for training top women’s MMA Fighter Miesha Tate, one of the Elite MMA / UFC Fighters in the world.   Tate is from Tacoma and World famous and trains with Zach who is given credit for preparing Tate to fight against Judo Champions like Ronda Rousey.

Going deeper we understand Zach is a high level honors student who is being looked at by America’s best academic schools.  He coaches Football as well with the Kamiakin Grid Kids program when he can, placed in State in wrestling, and has a few other interests.
His Mother, Maria Mejias Borisch, traveled with him to Argentina this past week and is a huge supporter.  If you have looked at the Picture above you can see this kid and his Mom both have what it takes to make it on the runway.  She is 1/2 Puerto Rican and cleraly handed her physical beauty off to her kids.  His Father is not too bad either so I had to ask.
“Mom & Dad both modeled, that’s how they met. Mom did fashion shows in Hawaii. Dad did a lot of the big time modeling cover photos. One on Sports Illustrated and he modeled for Versace,” said Zach admitting his parents have told him he is too busy to add that to his repertoire.
Looking at the family you can see they are what most American’s might consider perfect.  Far from it they have struggled like most of us but they have made their way and enjoyed a good life together.  Through sports they strive for excellence.  Judo has given Zach a full compliment of mental tools and obvious physical skills that translate on the football field too.
“He is going to shock people at how good he can be,” said All American QB and Coach John Charles who has trained Zach.  “He learns so fast and has really good mechanics.  His upside is huge no doubt.”
We like his smile and his demeanor.  No matter what skills an athlete shows on film we can not discount the off field aspects.  The really good coaches will want to know more like we did and they will go in for a deeper look.  They may find out that his Dad played Wide Receiver for Texas A & M, that Zach is ultimately coach-able, and that he is a team guy first.
“Our Football team looks great, our receivers have to be the best in the state. Jethro and I are still in the backfield. And we still have an awesome line up front,” he added stating he likes the Braves chances this year.

Where ever you may be today we wish you a Happy 4th of July.  This is a good day to remember all that gave their lives so we can celebrate on a day like today and the American Dream; it still is out there and worth pursuing.
